5 Questions–“The Martian”

    1. Do you think that there will ever be a human colony on Mars? Why or why not? If it were possible, would you want to go? What if the logistics of the trip were such that you could never come back?
    2. On Sunday I said there were two callings regarding the worth that God places on human life. The first was saying yes to our own worth (i.e. being freed of continually having to establish our worth in the eyes of others). The second was saying yes to the worth of others (i.e. actually humbling ourselves and thinking of them ahead of ourselves). Which of these do you struggle with more. Why?
    3. Read Ephesians 2:1-10. What strikes you about this passage? Pick out at least one specific thing. How is this an invitation to step into the more beautiful and bigger story that God is telling in human history?
    4. To follow Jesus (which means “God saves”) is to be part of God’s rescue mission for humankind. Share a story when you felt like you were really on mission with Jesus. How would you like to grow in this aspect of your life (i.e. ministering at The River, in Edmonton, around the world, etc.).
    5. In the movie, when Mark Watny was rescued, the entire world celebrated. How did this celebration make you feel? Now read Hebrews 12:1-3. Imagine the “great cloud of witnesses” that will explode with joy as you cross the finish line of your faith journey. If you are in a group, pray for each other that “you will not grow weary and lose heart”.
