Sharon left me. Ok, just for two weeks to visit Paris and Italy with Janessa. Still, since Evan and Connor are away tree planting, Travis is in Vancouver, it’s just Hillary and myself in the house. Pretty quiet. However, I’m trying to make the best of it. Yesterday, I had people over for both lunch and supper. For supper, I had Sunghee and her husband Eunsoo over. For those of you who don’t know, Sunghee has lung cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. I think it was a welcome change for her to get out of the house and have a special meal at someone else’s place. We had a great time. Some good laughter too. She wanted me to tell you “thanks”–for everyone who has prayed for them, brought food over, helped with yard work, etc. Tonight, Michael Kowalenko is coming over and we’re going to barbecue together. Michael was part of the core team that started The River, so I’ve known him for many years. Good guy. So, over the next two weeks, let me know if you have a night available, and we can sup together.
Big thanks to all those who showed up on Saturday morning to expand our community garden boxes. Norm Mantel led the charge….THX NORM! These community garden boxes are a fantastic way of connecting with the community around the church. I spent a good part of the morning trying to fill in the cavernous pot hole that developed in our parking lot over the Winter. It’s not 100% yet, but better than it was. If you’re not doing anything tonight, Norm needs a few helpers to haul the remaining topsoil to the gardens. They meet at 7 PM.
So, what’s on your summer reading list? So far, I have several books on my radar. A book called, “Sons and Soldiers” by Bruce Henderson which will feed my WW2 addiction. A book called “The Dry” by Jane Harper which will feed by “thriller” addiction. A few theology books..mostly older books that I want to read again. And a book that Juli Wenger turned me on to entitled, “Leaders Eat Last” by Simon Sinek. Let me know what your reading this summer and WHY. FYI, graphic novels don’t count.
