So, BIG NEWS! I am very pleased to tell you that Derrick Popley has accepted our offer to become the interim pastor of The River Community Church effective August 15th. Many of you had a chance to hear him preach a few weeks back. (I’ve included a picture of him and his lovely wife Keisha above). He and his family recently immigrated from Jamaica and have been attending The River for a few months now. Derrick comes with a wealth of practical experience in ministry and a passion to see Christ followers reach their full Kingdom potential. Derrick will be focusing exclusively on pastoring The River and his responsibilities will include integration, hospitality, small groups, discipleship, youth and young adults and part time preaching. Obviously, he can’t do all of this alone. So, don’t be surprised if he invites you to participate in and help lead our ministries this Fall. May the Lord bless him richly!
Congratulations and blessings to Jordan Schlamp and Zhou Yi Chen who got married on the weekend. I have to tell you I was a little concerned a few minutes before the ceremony as to whether or not it was going to take place. There was a monsoon like rain and lightning storm right before ceremony began. In fact, I found out later that during the same storm, a lighting strike hit the home of some Riverites–Byron and Leslie Lauber–and set their condo on fire (don’t worry; they’re ok). Anyway, thankfully the rains let up right before the service and everything went well (other than the fact that I dropped the bride’s ring!). The party afterwards was epic. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported them!
