A week ago Saturday, thanks to some generous friends, Sharon and I had the chance to see Handel’s Messiah down at the Winspear….HALLELUJAH! What a beautiful night. I actually sang the Messiah in college so I found myself singing along to some of the classics. Of course, I’ve heard parts of it since college (like every Christmas), but I never actually sat down and listened to the entire piece in one sitting. What really struck me was how direct and uncompromising Handel was in communicating the gospel message. It’s all there: Creation, Fall, Christmas, the passion of Jesus, and the final consummation. As I looked around the Winspear, I thought to myself, “we’re in a cathedral…we’re in church…and many of you don’t even know it.”
I won’t write another blog entry until the 2017, so if I don’t get a chance to say it to you…MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR! May the Lord bless you and your family richly!
