Monday Musings–February 27th

We had a terrific Executive retreat over the weekend. Let me take this opportunity to tell you what a wonderful group of people you have leading this church. They care enough about The River to ask the hard questions and to do the challenging work of envisioning the best future for our body. You’ll be seeing some of the fruit of our labors in the coming months. I think you’ll really like what you see. Please continue to pray for your Executive as there is still a lot of work to do.

Did you catch the Oscars? In particular, the final moments of the Oscars? They ended up naming the wrong film as the best picture of the year. “And the Oscar goes to “La La Land”….no wait…..”Moonlight”. I made me feel better about some of the technical glitches we have at The River from time to time.

One of the boards that I sit on for the denomination to which we belong is the board that is responsible for global missions. I just got word over the weekend that the person we put forward as the next leader of the mission agency was confirmed. I’m so thankful. His name is Zach King and he spend 15 years on the mission field in Haiti. When we interviewed him a 2 weeks ago, he had just finished successfully defending his PhD in Amsterdam. Not only is he is smart, humble and a great leader, but he’s a terrific person. He certainly has his work cut out for him as he is now leading an agency that is going through a ton of much needed change. May the Lord bless him richly!
