Being a news junkie, it was so sad and disturbing to see what happened last week south of the border. As I said on Sunday, I’m especially disappointed with the American church. I’m reading the blogs of so many minority pastors in the States who are basically saying, “I thought we had made some progress as a Church in race relations. I thought that we could count on white pastors and church goers to stand against a candidate who was so blatantly bigoted, misogynistic and xenophobic. But they did not. Nor did they loudly condemn it. In fact, 4 out of 5 (some 80%) of white evangelicals voted for Trump. How can we trust them moving forward?” My heart goes out to them.
Sharon and I are looking forward to the Newcomer’s Social next Sunday night. I met two people yesterday, one who was born in Mexico City and another who has a Persian German background (long story) who both said they were coming. If you are new or sort of new or just want your connection to The River to be renewed, don’t hesitate to come. It’s going to be a great night! Lots of good food and conversation. Starts at 6:30 PM at 1724 Haswell Cove. BTW, besides having a party, we’re hoping to launch some new groups out of this event. If you’re looking for a group, let us know.
