Starting Friday at 7:30pm
Entry is via a donation to the food bank, and you do not need to pre-purchase tickets. There will be a concession available through out the duration of the shows, and a pizza concession before the evening show on Saturday night. Our youth will be running the concession as they are raising funds for a mission trip to Mexicali in the spring.
Friday night we are showing "Highway of Tears" which discusses the topic of missing and murdered aboriginal women in Canada. This is a very timely movie, as this is a hot topic in the media right now - rightfully so! After the movie we will have a panel discussion with Harold Roshcer and Michelle Nieviadomy, as well as Kari Thomason from Project KARE.
On Saturday, the 3pm film is called Just Eat It. It was filmed mostly in Vancouver, and discusses the topic of food waste and hunger. It is family friendly (Hope watched part of it with me and she is 7) and an entertaining watch. It also leaves you feeling like you can make easy changes to make a difference.
At 5pm we will be showing 14634 110 Volunteers Unleashed which discusses the topic of voluntourism. It is well done, and pretty short (about an hour). It is a really good film for anyone thinking about going abroad to volunteer, and would be fantastic for any youth considering a GAP year experience. It will direct you in how to make good choices and ensure an experience that results in good and not harm.
Lastly, at 7:30 we will show the film Alive Inside. This a film about dementia and music: how music opens pathways in the brain to stimulate and awaken the people afflicted with dementia. It is hopeful and touching. After the show we will have two speakers discuss the topics of ageism, abuse and care of people with dementia. They are Jason Woytas, who teaches within the faculty of nursing at the UofA, and works at the Royal Alex and the Glencoe. Also, Patricia Gartner who is a registered social worker, and is the Designated Capacity Assessor at St Michaels Long Term Care Centre.
I will be there for the duration, and hope to see many of you there.
Thank you for your support, your interest, and your willingness to make a difference in the world.
PS - Please forward this to anyone you feel would be interested.
