We are an intergenerational community and believe we all benefit from learning and growing together. Our hope is that teens encounter the radical love of God, grow in a vibrant faith, and discover meaningful ways to participate in the life of the church.

Rather than building a large program-heavy youth ministry, we focus on helping teens become deeply connected within the whole church community. We also recognize that teens often have full schedules with school, sports, work, friendships, and extracurricular commitments, so our Sunday services become the focal point of our gathering times and special events often fall on Sunday afternoons as well.

What to expect

PULL UP A CHAIR

At The River, we gather around tables to encourage conversation, connection, and participation. Sunday mornings are casual and interactive.

Teens are invited to:

  • Share thoughts, questions, stories, and reflections

  • Participate in conversations during the service

  • Worship alongside the wider church community

  • Build relationships with people of different generations

You do not need to know all the answers or have everything figured out to belong here.

Food & Community

Coffee, refreshments, and bagels are available before every service, and once a month we share a brunch potluck together as a church family.

Teens should also check out the teen-only cooler for special beverages.

Get Involved

Youth are encouraged to participate fully in the life of the church. There are many ways to get involved, including:

  • Hospitality and greeting

  • Worship and music

  • Children’s ministry

  • Social justice projects

  • Special events

  • Creative projects and leadership opportunities

We believe young people have important gifts, perspectives, and leadership to offer the church right now.

Special events

Throughout the year we host a variety of events and gatherings, which may include:

  • Social events

  • Guest speakers

  • Short themed Bible studies

  • Social justice book clubs

  • Service opportunities

Some events are youth-specific, while others are intentionally intergenerational.

Our monthly rhythm

First Sunday — Communion & Shared Worship

All ages remain in the service together. These gatherings include singing, prayer, a short homily, and communion.

Following the service, we share a brunch potluck together as a church family, continuing the practice of gathering around the table in fellowship.

Second Sunday — Shared Worship

Jr. and Sr. High students remain in the service for worship alongside the wider church community.

These services are thoughtfully planned to create meaningful opportunities for all ages to participate in ways that are accessible, engaging, and spiritually enriching.

Note. Advent and Easter seasons also follow this format

Remaining Sundays

Sr. High — students remain in the main service and are welcomed at a table hosted by an adult leader who intentionally helps foster connection, conversation, and participation.

Jr. High — students are invited to their own gathering during the sermon portion of the service. These gatherings explore faith in four different ways:

Story: explore a Bible story and create a creative retelling to share with the church community

Serve: Participate in hands-on service projects that care for our community and contribute to church life.

Soul: Explore spiritual practices and hear leaders share about thier own faith journeys

Surprise: Build friendships and community thorugh games, activities, and fun.
